Christmas Boat Parade (Posted 12/18/2012)

It has been awhile since I updated the blog so we thought that we would share some photos of the Cape Coral Holiday Boat-Along parade. Everywhere we have been there has been a Christmas lighted/decorated boat parade but the Cape Coral parade puts all the others to shame!! It starts right here in "our harbor", Bimini Basin, and leaves here to go through some of the canals out to the river.

We would consider Bimini Basin to be crowded if there were 20 boats anchored here. For the parade the boats start coming in to anchor in the late afternoon to be ready when the parade starts at 7 PM. By the time the parade starts there are over 120 boats anchored or milling about and over 100 that are decorated and lighted to be in the parade!

The parade draws thousands of people to the park beside our condo and others watch all along the canals.  Here is a photo of the crowd starting to gather at the park before dark:

This year Santa's elves were there again just like last year.  They seem to like to anchor near our boat. Not complaining, just sayin". GRIN

Before the man-made light show we, of course, had the obligatory Florida sunset light show:

Here are some photos of the decorated boats:

The lights in the foreground are on our boat and you can see how close the other boats anchor. If a boat anchored that close to us under normal circumstances we would be freaked out and giving them the evil eye!! But it is only for awhile until they get underway to be in the parade:

One of the larger boats (60 to 70 foot boat):

Amazingly, everyone played nice, no one hit our boat, and there were no other collisions that we were aware of. It was a beautiful warm evening with light winds and we were in short-sleeves.

Amy, Mark, Olivia and Laura will arrive the day after Christmas for their first visit to the condo.  We will all go up to Kissimmee (Orlando) for a couple of the days to see Amy's grandmother and will spend the rest of the week here. To say that Linda and I are excited to have them visit is an understatement, of course!

We did not get Christmas cards out this year so consider this to be your Christmas card and letter from us from sunny Florida! :-)

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
