Trip to Connecticut (Posted 10/21/2012)

On October 5th we flew from Fort Myers to Connecticut for a ten day visit.  Had a bit of trouble getting there with the airline delaying and delaying the departure and then stranding us overnight in Orlando. They did pay for the hotel for the night but we were not happy campers!! But we arrived the next day in Connecticut and had a great visit with Amy, Mark, Laura and Olivia.  The girls were off from school on Columbus Day so we had a little extra time with them. They are growing up so fast.

We went to the Science Museum in Hartford.  Both Olivia and Laura like science and don't get enough of it at school. We all had a great time.  It is a large museum with lots of hands-on exhibits and things to do, as well as an I-Max 3D movie theater.

Here are photos of Olivia and Laura at the museum:

We were able to have lunch one day with some old friends (as in we have known them for a long time, not "old" as in age, of course!) GRIN

We were also able to be there for Amy's birthday (a gentleman does not reveal a lady's age).  Obviously, she is still very young or else I would be getting older.

While we were in Connecticut Linda got to check off an item on her "bucket list"!  She has been wanting to go on a zipline. There is a park with an obstacle course and ziplines in Bridgeport so we all went there on our last day in Connecticut.  Instead of starting with the lower and easier course, Linda, of course, wanted to start on a higher level, more difficult course. So off she went with me in pursuit. The obstacles consisted of things like logs hanging freely by ropes from an overhead cable and you had to cross a long distance on them from one high platform in the trees to another. It was scary, challenging, and required stamina and agility.  Linda, of course, thought it was great fun! I, on the other hand, was shaking, adrenaline pumping, dry cotton mouth, death grip on the cable, etc., even though we were in a safety harness and clipped to a cable so we wouldn't have actually fallen to the ground. About halfway through the course, I was "fussing" and would have liked to get to the ground.  A staff member on the ground yelled up, "No way down, you will just have to finish the course. (I think that he probably added "Old fart" under his breath but I'm not sure of that!) After a few obstacles there would be a zipline to fly along between two platforms. THAT part was fun! At the end of the course you clip to a retractable line and step off the high platform in the trees into space and it lowers you to the ground. Hoping it would actually work and not break, we screwed up our courage and stepped off! I was happy to be on terra firma again!!

Here is a link to a YouTube video that Mark took with his iPhone of Linda on the zipline:

So we had another great visit and are looking forward to having Amy, Mark, Olivia and Laura come down the day after Christmas to visit with us and stay in our new condo.

Oh, by the way, we finally slept in the condo the night we returned from our trip because it was too late to go back out to the boat and have to put everything away that night. That was the first and only time we have slept in the condo since we bought it two and a half months ago!  We return to the boat each evening that we have gone ashore and sometimes, of course, don't go ashore at all for a few days. We still like living on the boat, but do take advantage of the convenience of having the condo for showers, water source and the extra refrigerator/freezer space and storage space. And we even swam in the pool a couple of times! GRIN
