The "Harbor Rats" Escape! (Posted March 2013)

We have spent the winter in the harbor and hadn't been out sailing for a loooong time! I could give a hundred excuses but none are valid.  It is just too easy to settle in and become a "harbor rat".  Things are so convenient here and we are comfortable. But, despite being retired for years now, my Type A goal-oriented "I am bored" personality is still there and I feel guilty if I am just setting around in one place. And a sailboat is meant to be sailing and poor Enchantress was feeling restless too! So....we finally dropped our mooring and sailed to another harbor nearby for a vacation from our endless vacation. (GRIN)  Linda and I had big smiles as we finally got underway again! Kids out of school!!

Here are two photos taken on the trip:

We took a dinghy ride up the inlet and channel through the mangroves and went ashore at the fancy upscale marina/resort. We only stayed a couple of days and then returned "home" to Bimini Basin.

Things have slowed down a little in the harbor now that the "snowbirds" or part-time cruisers are starting to head north or up the Okeechobee Waterway to put their boats in storage for the summer and go home.  We have had a lot of Canadian boats this year with some staying anchored in the harbor for a couple of months. People arrive and find out that this is the best harbor they have been to, way too convenient and safe, and like us they just want to stay. Today we went below 10 boats in the harbor which hasn't happened for most of the winter. This summer we will have the harbor mostly to ourselves or just a few boats at a time.

In  a few weeks we will be flying up to Connecticut for about a 10 day visit as the girls are off from school that week for their Spring Break. We are, of course, really looking forward to that!

Hope everyone has a great spring.
