Trip to Connecticut (Posted 6/22/2010)

We flew up to Connecticut on June 10th. That evening Olivia had a violin concert at her school that we were able to attend. She is very much into the violin, doing really well and will be attending a strings camp for a few weeks this summer.

On Saturday both Laura and Olivia had their dance recitals. Both girls did really well and continued to dance at home for several days, making up and choreographing their own dances!!! Here is a photo of them taken at the house before we left to go to the recital:

On Sunday I started with a sore throat which turned into the flu. Since there is no "seasonal flu" around at this time of year we assumed it must have been the new swine flu. On Wednesday, my 64th birthday, the fever hit and I was down for the count! But I muddled through the other days and we had a great time despite the plague which I assume I caught on the airplane coming up to Connecticut.

We took a trip on the next weekend with Amy, Olivia and Laura down to the shore. As you can see, we don't want to be away from or off the water even when on "vacation". Sooo...we went on a tour boat around the Thimble Islands where years ago Amy and I used to cruise and anchor and I would dream of going cruising someday! "Someday Isle" has arrived!! ;-)

Here are a couple of photos of the islands:

As you can see the islands are rocky and everyone says that "The Thimble Islands are like a piece of Maine drifted down into Long Island Sound". They were left here when the glaciers receeded during the last ice age. Captain Kidd, the pirate, hid his ships behind the islands to evade the British ships that were hunting him. Today there are summer homes on some of the islands (no one is dumb enough to spend a Connecticut winter out there!!!!). The largest estate on one of the islands recently sold for 23 million dollars (a cheap summer home!) but, of course, you own your own private island for that.

We have returned to Stuart and are, of course, happy to be back on the water. We will stay here for a couple of weeks until after the Fourth of July holiday and then start north up to Cocoa/Titusville so that we will be up there when Amy, Mark, Laura and Olivia come down at the end of July for a vacation at Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral.

It is so amazing to see pics of the Thimbles! We were there coming and going back in '05 and really loved it. Reminded us of the Benjamins in the North Channel.

Sounds like you had a good time, even if you were under the weather.
