Since our last update, we have been moving about again doing some "mini-cruising" around the St. Petersburg area.
On July 31st we sailed on down to Longboat Key and we again donned our masks and snorkels to scrape and clean Enchantress' bottom and to take our dinghy, "Little One", up on the beach to clean her bottom too. We spent three days there and then stopped to do the laundry and fill the water tanks at Bradenton Beach. The next day we headed north across the mouth of Tampa Bay to anchor off Maximo Park and on the next day to anchor again in "our private cove" at Redington Shores.
Linda's sister, Sally, was down from Georgia to visit and we spent an afternoon with her (she and Linda shopping, of course!) and that evening we went out to dinner with her, Linda's niece and her grand nephew. The next day we had lunch with our friend Jack and the following day lunch (& more shopping!) with Linda's stepsister. As you can imagine, it was now time to DIET after too much eating out!! We stayed anchored in our cove while Linda worked on sewing and craft projects.
One day we weighed anchor, motored a couple of miles down the Intracoastal Waterway and anchored off a McDonalds which has a nice dock (the only waterfront McDonalds restaurant that I know of!!!). We took the dinghy into the dock and did our grocery shopping at the supermarket next door. Then we upped anchor and went back to anchor in our cove. Now THAT'S how sailors go grocery shopping! :-)
Our next mini-cruise was to downtown St. Petersburg. We anchored in a seawall enclosed basin in Bayboro Harbor behind the Salvador Dali Museum and the USF St. Petersburg campus. Some friends on the sailboat "Calcutta", who we met in the Keys, were living in the marina so we were able to visit with them while we were there. The swells from Tampa Bay came into the anchorage making it a bit uncomfortable so after a few days seeing the sights in St. Pete we headed out of Tampa Bay.
